Senior QA Automation Engineer (Java & API Automation) – Hybrid (Warsaw)

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior QA Automation Engineer with a strong software engineering mindset and extensive experience in Java-based test automation. The role is focused primarily on backend and API automation (approximately 70%), with frontend automation accounting for the remaining 30%.

The ideal candidate is a technically mature professional who can independently design and implement automation solutions, build automation frameworks from scratch, make technical decisions, and contribute to quality engineering best practices across teams. Strong programming fundamentals and hands-on experience in designing scalable automation solutions are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute integration, system, and usability testing
• Participate in End-to-End (E2E) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
• Collaborate with developers to understand critical paths and ensure product stability
• Strengthen cooperation and communication across development teams
• Contribute to improving QA processes, frameworks, and testing standards
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation solutions
• Drive technical improvements and quality engineering best practices

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in QA Automation
• Strong senior-level Java programming skills
• Deep understanding of both core and advanced Java concepts, including:
  • Optional
  • Stream API
  • Lambda Expressions
  • Memory Management
  • Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
  • SOLID principles
  • Clean Code practices
  • Other mechanisms commonly used in enterprise software development
• Proven experience in designing, building, and maintaining test automation frameworks from scratch, not only extending existing solutions
• Strong experience in backend and API test automation
• Hands-on experience with REST Assured
• Deep understanding of API testing concepts, including:
  • HTTP protocols and methods
  • Authentication and authorization mechanisms
  • Idempotency
  • Request/response lifecycle
  • Error handling
  • Backend integration concepts
• Experience in test automation for enterprise-scale backend systems
• Ability to independently design, implement, and evolve automation solutions while making technical decisions with minimal supervision
• Practical experience with:
  • Jira (preferably Xray)

• Deep understanding of:
  • CI/CD pipelines and tools
  • Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • API architecture and integrations
• Experience with:
  • Building and maintaining scalable automation frameworks

• Experience working in technically demanding projects requiring a high degree of autonomy
• Ability to work effectively under project pressure and in dynamic environments
• Performance testing experience is considered an advantage, particularly with JMeter

This role is aimed at genuinely senior-level Automation Engineers with strong software engineering fundamentals. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to design and build automation frameworks from scratch, make independent technical decisions, and work effectively in technically demanding environments. The primary focus of the recruitment process is advanced Java-based automation, particularly within backend and API testing. Strong backend automation expertise and hands-on experience with REST Assured are considered essential.

Work Model

• Hybrid model:
  • 1 day every two weeks (Thursday) in the Warsaw office
  • Additional on-site presence (2-3 days) every 2-3 months for planning sessions
• Rate: 110-130 PLN/h + VAT
